A lipoaspiração é eficaz e segura para o lipedema?

Resposta atual

Based on current evidence, liposuction appears to be an effective and reasonably safe treatment for lipedema, though the studies available are not the highest quality (no randomized controlled trials exist). Across many case series and reviews involving thousands of patients, liposuction consistently reduces pain, swelling, bruising, and quality-of-life problems, with benefits lasting years in some studies. The procedure appears safe when performed by experienced teams, with serious complications (blood clots, infections, tissue death) being rare; fluid collections (seromas) occur in roughly 1 in 5 patients. However, liposuction is not a cure — about half of patients still need compression garments or other conservative treatments afterward. Patients with larger fat removal volumes or additional procedures done at the same time have a higher risk of seromas.

O que mudou nesta versão

This update added several new studies — including large reviews covering thousands of patients and studies with up to 8 years of follow-up — that consistently confirm liposuction reduces pain and improves quality of life in lipedema, with more detail on how large the benefits are and how long they last.

Maior incerteza

The biggest gap in the evidence is that no randomized controlled trials have been done, so we cannot be certain how much of the improvement is due to liposuction itself versus other factors. We also do not know how long the benefits last beyond 8 years, which technique works best for which patients, or how liposuction compares head-to-head with non-surgical treatments.
